Product Transparency - Steel EPDs
It is no longer enough for design professionals to say that a building is environmentally responsible—they also need to prove it. Certifications like LEED have developed a set of credits for projects to achieve to demonstrate true sustainability. One potential contributor to these certifications is the availability of sustainability data and documentation like EPDs for materials and products used in building designs.
As sustainability and environmental issues are becoming more widely acknowledged, the steel industry is committed to transparency about the potential environmental impacts of steel products. The steel industry is improving transparency by creating a culture of consistent data collection. As a result, industry-wide EPDs are available for most steel construction products.
A list of EPDs for sheet steel building products can be found in our Sustainability Section and a list of other steel product EPDs can be found at http://www.buildusingsteel.org/EPDs
